The Atchison will provide residents new housing opportunities within a pedestrian-oriented neighborhood with access to transportation, job centers, retail, entertainment, schools, community services and the BART. The Atchison is a catalyst project that will establish development and design standards for the Railroad Avenue Specific Plan. The project will embrace concepts of “transit accessibility, pedestrian friendly design, high-quality development, inclusiveness, and sustainability” to help “create a vibrant 21st Century hub”.

The Atchison consists of two buildings. The design will utilize Building # 1 and its frontage along Railroad Avenue to present a four-story building with 15,000 square feet of ground floor commercial / retail space set in moment frames and glass. Above the commercial space will sit 42 studio apartments. Building # 2 is a five-story building located behind Building # 1. This building will consist of 110 one-bedroom apartments and 60 two-bedroom apartments. The development offers residents amenities including a pool, spa, fire pits, barbeque areas, tot lots, community business center, fitness center, lounge area and recreational room.

The Atchison will connect jobs, housing and services while improving mobility options that reduce air pollution and encourage increased transit ridership. The infill development provides opportunity for housing in a mixed-use urban environment. Our goal is to build a development that embodies the goals of the Railroad Avenue Specific Plan and sets the bar for future mixed- use development in Pittsburg.
